Questions about working with Kyver

Kyver is an AI consulting firm for mid-market companies. These are the questions leaders ask us most: who we work with, how the fixed-price assessment and its refund work, and how we handle security, governance, cost, traceability and maintenance once AI is running in your business. Each topic links to the page that covers it in depth.

About Kyver

What does Kyver Applied Intelligence do?

Kyver is an AI consulting firm for mid-market companies. We run a fixed-price assessment of where AI can help your business, deliver a company-specific implementation plan, then build and manage that plan with security, governance, cost control and traceability included.

Who is Kyver for?

Companies with roughly $10M to $200M in annual revenue that want results from AI now and don't have a dedicated AI team. Large enough to gain a lot, and usually too small for the big consultancies to serve well.

How much does the AI assessment cost?

The assessment is a fixed price, agreed in writing before any work starts. It depends on the size of your company and how many departments are in scope, and we give you the number on the first call.

How does the assessment refund work?

If you implement the plan with Kyver within 6 months of receiving it, we refund the assessment fee. The terms are written into the engagement agreement you sign before we begin.

Why focus on mid-market companies?

Large consultancies are priced and staffed for enterprises. AI vendors recommend their own product. Freelancers rarely stay to maintain what they build. Mid-market companies are big enough to gain a lot from AI and are often underserved by all three.

How is Kyver related to Sightsource?

Kyver is a sister company of Sightsource, a custom software firm that has built and supported business software since 2009. Kyver's work is done by the same team, with the same track record.

Do you work with the AI tools we already have?

Yes. The assessment covers the AI tools your staff already use, and the plan builds on what is working. We recommend replacing a tool only when the numbers support it.

Security

Catch AI attempts to reach data or take actions outside their permissions, and block them before they run.

How we handle security

What is an AI policy gateway?

A service that sits between AI models and the tools they can use. It checks every tool call against a policy (who is asking, what they want to touch, whether it's allowed) and blocks or escalates anything outside the rules.

Do we have to replace our existing security tools?

No. The gateway works alongside your identity provider, firewall and endpoint tools. It covers something they weren't built for: actions requested by AI agents.

What is prompt injection?

Text written to manipulate an AI model, often hidden inside an email, web page or document the model reads. It tries to make the model leak data or misuse its tools. Limiting what each agent is allowed to do keeps a successful injection from causing damage.

Governance

Decide which AI actions need a human sign-off, and make sure nothing irreversible happens without one.

How we handle governance

What is human-in-the-loop AI?

A design where an AI system prepares an action and a person approves it before it takes effect. It is used for actions that are costly, regulated or hard to reverse.

Won't approvals slow everything down?

Only for the actions that warrant them. Most AI work (research, drafting, summarizing, matching) is reversible and runs without a gate. Approval requests arrive with everything the approver needs, so most take seconds.

How does AI governance relate to compliance frameworks?

Governance controls produce evidence for the frameworks you already answer to, such as SOC 2 change management or financial controls testing. During the assessment we map each control to the requirements you name.

Cost

Run most AI work on hosted models that aren't metered by the token, so the monthly cost is predictable.

How we handle cost

Why do AI token costs become unpredictable?

Metered APIs charge for every token sent and received. Cost rises with usage, prompt length, retries and agent loops, none of which are fixed. One misbehaving workflow can multiply a monthly bill.

Are hosted models as capable as the big APIs?

For many routine business tasks, current open-weight models perform close to the large APIs. For harder reasoning the large APIs are still ahead, so we route those tasks to them, under a budget.

Where do the hosted models run?

On infrastructure provisioned for your company. We agree on the provider and region during the assessment, and your data stays in that environment.

Traceability

Record every AI session step by step, so failures can be investigated and fixed instead of guessed at.

How we handle traceability

What is AI observability?

Recording what AI systems do (prompts, retrieved context, tool calls and outputs) so you can monitor quality and investigate failures. It is the AI equivalent of application logging and tracing.

Does tracing store sensitive data?

A trace can contain anything the AI saw. We set redaction rules for regulated fields, keep traces in your environment, and apply the retention limits you approve.

Does the shim slow responses down?

Very little. Recording happens alongside the call, and the overhead is small next to the time a model takes to respond.

Maintainability

An outside team with no internal politics, that stands behind what it builds and keeps improving it.

How we handle maintainability

Can our internal IT team maintain what Kyver builds?

Yes. Everything is documented and lives in your accounts. Most clients keep us on to manage and update it, because models and tooling change constantly.

What happens if we stop working with Kyver?

You keep everything: code, configuration, policies, traces and documentation. We hand over operations with a written transition plan.

Why not hire an AI engineer instead?

For some companies that is the right call. One hire is a single point of failure, though, and experienced AI engineers are expensive. A firm gives you a team, coverage when someone is out, and continuity when people change roles.

What does the price of the assessment depend on?

Mostly on the size of your company, how many departments are in scope and how many systems we need to review. We give you the number on the first call, and it is fixed in writing before any work begins.

What happens after the plan is delivered?

We walk your leadership team through it in a readout and answer questions. Then you decide what to do with it. If you choose to implement with Kyver, we agree the scope and milestones for the first phase and start building.

Do we have to implement the plan with Kyver?

No. The plan is yours either way, and you can implement it with your own team, another firm or not at all. The refund applies only if you implement it with Kyver within 6 months of delivery.

What counts as implementing the plan within 6 months?

The engagement agreement defines it. You read and sign that agreement before the assessment starts, so you know exactly what qualifies for the refund before you commit.

Does the assessment cover the AI tools we already use?

Yes. We review the AI tools your staff already use for security, governance and cost, alongside everything else. The plan builds on what is working, and we recommend replacing a tool only when the numbers support it.

Who on our side needs to be involved?

A sponsor on the leadership team, the head of each department in scope for working sessions, and someone who can grant read access to the relevant systems and documentation.

Start with the assessment

Fixed price, agreed up front. Implement the plan with us within 6 months and we refund the fee.
